Route - Part 11
Maracaibo, Zulia, Venezuela to Juangriego,
Nueva Esparta, Venezuela

Well, this is the final part of the journey as we have it currently planned.
The initial section takes us over the General Rafael Urdaneta Bridge from the
port of Maracaibo, over the northern channel of Lake Maracaibo towards Cabimas,
then onwards to Valencia and Caracas. As we head towards Barcelona and Puerto La
Cruz we will be running alongside the Caribbean Sea and should be able to see
Isla La Tortuga to the North. Still following the sea, we pass through Cumaná
and head for the port and Carúpano which is where Christopher Columbus, on his
third voyage to the New World, actually set foot on the American Continent for
his first AND ONLY TIME (the rest of the time he was in the Caribbean islands).
Carúpano is where we will catch the high-speed ferry to the port at Punta de
Piedras, Nueva Esparta. From there, it is about 30 kms to our intended final
destination at
Juangriego.
