Venezuelan Journey
IS OVER !!
(at least for now)
See 'Daily Diary' for more.
"Crazy !"
"Mad !"
"Incredulous !"
"You're Doing WHAT ?!?"
Those have been some of the reactions when people are told what we are
attempting to do over the next few months; a journey that we hope will become an
amazing adventure; a journey of more than 12,000 kms; a journey from one
continent to another; a journey that we have been thinking about for the last 9
- 10 years and actively planning for the last 3 of those years.
"That will
be Great !"
"I wish I had the nerve to do that !"
"Do you have room for 1 more
?!?"
Are just some of the 'other' responses we have received, even from those people
who still think we are "Crazy".
So what is this all about?
Cindy & Derek, married since 1971 with 3 Kids and 3 Grandkids, are attempting to
drive from Georgetown, Ontario, Canada to Juangriego, Nueva Esparta, Venezuela
(here we go again with the "Crazy!" responses).
We intend to leave Ontario
in late April or Mid May 2008 (now scheduled for mid June 2008) and spend the next 3 months driving through the
USA, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama and Venezuela
(we are trying to miss Columbia).
We reckon that the total journey will be about 12,000 kms including side trips
to interesting places along the way.
"Why don't you just fly ?"
I hear you asking; well that wouldn't be much fun would it ?
We want to explore; meet people that we would otherwise never have met; see
places that are not on any standard tourist agenda; experience Central & Latin
American life as the locals live; wash our clothes on stones at the edge of the
river (OK, maybe that's taking it a bit far).
We want to see the
'Resplendent Quetzal' in the rain forests of Guatemala; we want go to sleep
with the sounds of a family of
'Coatimundi'
foraging for food just like their North American cousin, the Raccoon; how about
waking at dawn to a chorus of thousands of
'Macaws' hidden in the mist of a nearby
'Cloud
Forest'.
"Hang on a minute !" I
hear you saying, "Where are you going to stay during the trip ?"
Well, that's where the 'Big Green Machine' comes in; our transportation for this
trip will be using our
2004 Ford
F350, King Ranch, Crew Cab, Long Box, Dually, Diesel pickup truck pulling our
2004 Jayco Legacy 3610, 38 ft., 5th Wheel Trailer.
OK, go easy with more of those "You must be mad !" comments.
So, this site is provided
to give you the ability to live and travel vicariously through our journey.
We will create a Guestbook once we get the main part of the site more polished.
Thanks,
Cindy & Derek
